Winter Squash
I baked two winter squash yesterday. One was a green Acorn, the other a small roundish cream, yellow, orange, striped one, a Sweet Dumpling Squash.
The Acorn was nasty tasting, the other one was fantastic, very flavorful, slightly sweet and good texture. I hope there are several more at the store today. I love winter squash, not so fond of summer ones. I used to add lots of salt and butter, not anymore. Just plain, nothing is needed on this pretty squash. I cut it in half scoop out the seeds, spray it with organic canola oil, and bake in a pan with water in it at 400 for 45 minutes. What a treat.
I also love yams, these plus cabbage are my food of choice right now. I am such a seasonal eater. I can’t wait for our California orange to ripen. I love Brussel sprouts too. I’ll see if I can buy a big stock today. They would be good steamed sprayed with olive oil and a tad of salt. I can eat about 10 of them maybe less now.
It must be duck season already. I keep hearing guns, poor ducks. I love seeing them, the pheasant too, so pretty. We have lots of birds on the tiny island.
It is a shopping day again. I want to order the cabinet knobs for the bathrooms, buy a few groceries and maybe some planting mix and some winter flowering plants. I love the big sages. Hope they have them at them as the yard needs some color. We also need to winter feed the lawn. Here on the golf course it is all crab grass. It doesn’t stay green in the winter so I will look for a winter grass seed to over seed the Bermuda. California lawns are always beautiful in the winter. I have never had a Bermuda lawn before, I don’t know how to take care of one.
The bathroom redo is still not finished. Two months now without a sink installed. It is the lighting that is holding everything up. They were ordered in Aug. I doubt they ordered them until we called 6 weeks later to find when we can pick them up. Now they say next week. I will never use a small store again. I will stick to my internet shopping.
I think I will look for a paint color too.
