New Beginnings
Closed my business
I started this blog with the same post title, now I am starting another chapter in my life. I closed my Dental Lab last week and am now unemployed for the first time since I started working oh so many years ago. I do have several things that interest me, all involving the internet, so I plan to keep myself busy for the next several years.
The hard part of not working, of course, is money. I had to get out of debt so we could live off less income. We have no Credit Card debt, paid half the remaining balance on the 2008 BMW and we are trying to reduce our home energy use and groceries. The BMW now has 2 years left to pay. I got a PG&E bill yesterday, it seems setting the thermostat at 78 doesn’t help one bit. The bill was $247, one hundred to much are far as I can tell. We now will leave it off a few days a week. Good thing it is supposed to be getting cooler here.
Medical tests
I am getting the results of the tests I have been doing with the various Dr.’s. All have come back normal except the last one. Seems I have diverticulitis. I was not aware of that. The colonoscopy discovered that as well as a benign polyp. That was the first time for that procedure for me. It is something people should never put off. I am glad I did it and that it is over. I don’t need to do that for another 5 years. It is a good feeling to know you are healthy.
Calorie Restriction
I am convinced my tests came back great to normal because of CR. I finished my first year eating the CR way and plan to never eat any other way.
Yesterday I made a list of the usual meals I make. These are meals that don’t require a recipe for me, are fast and simple to prepare, all CR or as close to it as I can do it, and our favorites. I came up with only 17 different meals. I thought I had more than that. I plan on having 2 or 3 meatless meals a week. It should be easy for me since I love split peas, lentils and most dried beans. I also make a meatless pizza from scratch.
Here is my food list:
- Fish taco’s
- Hamburger taco’s
- Pizza with goat cheese
- Salmon
- Pork Chops
- BBQ Baked Chicken (home made bbq sauce)
- Joe’s Special with spinach
- Greek Stew
- Chili with beans
- Lentils
- Split Pea Soup
- Stuffed bell Peppers
- Baked Chicken breast
- Chicken Caccatore
- Steak
- Meatloaf
- Turkey sausage with onions
I know there must be more. We have fish twice a week, pizza every Friday, and a legume once a week. I also like to eat one big meal a day and make it early in the day, around 3 or 4 is best for me. We don’t sit and snack watching TV if we can eat a big meal this early. Today was baked Chicken with broccoli, strawberries for dessert.
With all the time I will have because I am not working, I can eat early and less. Both of us are hooked on fruit, lots of fruit. Today we had a melon, banana, apples, pineapple, and strawberries. Several servings of each. Strawberries being my favorite because of the few calories, second is apples. I had 3 apples today, they are small but still 3 of them!! They are so good!
Good job on your calorie restriction choices. O, how I wish the rest of the world would be as wise as you. That’s something that would make health care costs go down more than anything! You have done a good job documenting how exercise and smart eating decisions has taken you down the path towards your optimal weight. Also, that’s good you like fruit because they are a good source of natural sugars, not that bad stuff found in soda pop.
