Calorie Restriction yummy meat balls

I made a great dinner tonight. I love it when my cooking tastes great, it doesn’t always.  The meat balls turned out to be good in protein and low in calories. Each meatball was about 60 calories each. I put them in a tomato sauce that I make myself. I buy tomato paste and add chicken or beef stock to it. That way I control the sugar, none.

The tomato sauce had just spices in it. It cooked up nice and thick from the small amount of parmasean cheese and a bit of panko bread crumbs in the meat balls. I put them over steamed green beans.

This is another dinner I need to make more often.

  • 1pound ground beef 10% fat
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 small onion chopped and sauteed in olive oil and oregano/rosemary
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Mix everything together form into 1oz balls, pan fry.

  • 1 can Tomato paste
  • Chicken or beef stock
  • oregano (greek)

Put the cooked meat balls in the sauce let simmer for about one hour. Put over steamed green beans. If  you didn’t notice, I don’t use garlic, we hate the stuff and I don’t eat pasta. The green beans taste great with a tomato sauce and olive oil on them so I just add the meat balls. Wonderful and filling dinner.

Gym

I had a good workout today at the gym as far as I know. I have been monitored for the past two workouts to see how I am doing. I have been working out 14 times now. Monday I burned only 312 calories and thought that was pretty good, today I did 452. Now I am convinced I can get it to 500 or 550 and keep it there each workout. I go only 3 days a week. I should show a weight loss of 2 pounds a month if I calculated it right. I did notice that I was very hungry today.  Don’t know if that was because of the work out or not. I was careful to not over eat, but it sure was in the back of my mind to do it because of working off that dang 500 calories. Defeats my calorie restriction to me.

My legs are ok with the work out but I really get worn out. They take a bit of time to recover. Tells me how much they really need this workout. My upper body strength is better. I should start to feel some muscle soon. Wonder how long that will take.

My weight is 139, giving me a total in 18 months of 88 pounds gone. I haven’t lost anything in one week. Maybe I will show a loss in a few days. I am getting so close to goal. Goal is 130 plus the 10% for optimal health. 118 is where that puts me. I am in no hurry to get there. I am wearing a size 7 jeans and that seems pretty good for me. Guess I look thinner than I feel. Who would have thought, fat me would ever be skinny or almost skinny. Loving it.

Calorie Restriction has saved my life.

Hey! I just found your blog a few days ago. Actually was through Antishay’s youtube site in which she mentioned one of your videos. You are an inspiration!

Your meatballs sound delicious. I never thought of chicken broth and paste - that’s a great idea! I am doing “low carb” but also restricting calories (Using FitDay). This worked great last year but I gained everything back because I am a full time Senior college student and I just “lost it” and ate and ate! No more though, I am back to eating right.

If you want to only work out for strength, but not lose weight any faster, couldn’t you increase your calories just a little on the day you work out? Especially a little extra protein for muscle repair.

Good luck and keep at it!! :)

I restrict my calories for optimal health and don’t want the extra calories. It took me along darn time to get my body used to less calories and I sure don’t want to eat more.
I did read that for Calorie Restriction it would be OK to eat more on the work out days but, like I said, I don’t want to do that.
I do like the idea of more protein. Maybe I will add a bit more on workout days. I can still keep the calories low if I have a bit of cottage cheese for protein. Only 60 calories and 11 grams of protein.
Thanks, I will give that a try tomorrow.
Just look at that, I changed my mind in two sentences.

I just found your site a few days ago too, and you are very inspirational to me. Thank you.

Working out can make you hungry!! Exercise has been part of my life since 1986 but CRON only since Nov. 2008. Inspite of the regular exercise, I started at 238 lbs. I am now down to 212. When I was in high school (many years ago), I was the only one on the track team that would GAIN weight when the season started because all the training made me extremley hungery.

I am going to find something to eat as soon as I walk in the door after the gym. I am leaning toward 1/2 cup of cottage cheese. I sure hope it fills me up.
